• BJIOS’ top priority is the health & safety of our staff and students. We have invested in plexiglass barriers for each dj station, heavily enforce social distancing, closed all common areas, allow entry only to enrolled students (up to 12 students per class), minimize staff, temperature checks are taken at the door, and masks are required upon entry & are to stay on during the entire duration inside bjios, we provide breaks during class for students to get fresh air, hand sanitizer is provided upon entry and students are required to wash their hands prior to class & after, stations are sanitized thoroughly before and after each use several times a day, and staff tests weekly. We do not allow classes to intermingle and as that students do not loiter inside of BJIOS.

Courses & Curriculums

  • At BJIOS, we are focused on the fundamentals of DJing, mechanics, and technique. Our classes are designed for music lovers, aspiring DJs who want to learn more about the artform of DJing from instructors who are pioneers of the culture. Our students become familiar with both vinyl and digital platforms. Serious Applicants Only.

  • At BJIOS, we focus on dexterity, muscle memory, listening by ear & train students to be ambidextrous. We firmly believe that having a solid foundation of DJing as an artform maintains our philosophy of “Building Better DJs'“. Students will learn how to scratch, and mix by ear in entry level classes. Our Beat Junkie style of DJing has provided confidence & skills to our graduates & students that is unparalleled. With these new found technical skills, our students evolve to learning beat juggling & trick mixing skills from the Beat Junkies themselves who are considered one of the Pioneers of DJ Culture.

  • BJIOS has a variety of equipment for students to use for classes from Technics, Mixars, Roland, Serato, Pioneer, Denon, NuMark, Rane and much more.

  • Students will have use of the amenities turntables, controllers, needles, & monitors.

    However, for particular classes and courses students and members will be required to provide their own laptop with Serato DJ software.

    For our production classes ie: Abelton & Serato Studio you will be required to purchase the software for class.

    * Covid-19 update: Students will be required to bring their training wax for every class.

    We are also requiring that students provide their own headphones for class. We have earbuds available for purchase at the BJIOS retail pro shop.

    Each station is thoroughly sanitized before & after each use several times a day.

  • There are always tracks cycling in and out, so start times vary depending on the course you’re interested in. Learn more here.

  • Yes, only if there is an open slot available, and class 1 has started, we schedule and require a make-up session prior to attending class.

  • Yes, we offer Abelton & Serato Studio classes for those interested in learning production. These classes are considered an elective class and is only offered a few times per year. We have a waiting list you can request to be on if at the time of your inquiry there isn’t one available.

  • Yes, we offer financing via Klarna.

    Applicants must apply in-person or via zoom and provide two forms of I.D. to qualify. Once approved, students will submit payments to Klarna directly. You can schedule an appointment here.

  • In Person Private sessions are available on a limited basis at this time due to covid-19.

  • These types of programs are only for accredited nonprofit institutions, which BJIOS is not at this time. We are a recreational educational institution; and are unable to accept these programs, but do offer financing via Klarna for approved applicants.

  • For those interested in joining the BJIOS community and want to become a member, we have online classes available at beatjunkies.tv, & have occasional Master Classes & Power courses offered at BJIOS.

Student Life

  • There is free street parking available in the surrounding area on San Fernando Rd, Harvard and Ivy Street.

    You can park along the green curbs after 6PM. Please be advised of posted signs.

  • Intro to DJing & Foundation Levels 1 - 4:
    • Headphones with a 1/8inch aux plug (No Bluetooth)
    • BJIOS Training Wax
    • Water or anything to stay hydrated during class

    Foundation Levels 5 - 8, Structure, & Controllerism:
    • Headphones with a 1/8inch aux plug (No Bluetooth)
    • BJIOS Training Wax or Serato Control Vinyl
    • Laptop with any necessary adapters/dongles

    Production Classes:
    • Headphones with a 1/8inch aux plug (No Bluetooth)
    • Laptop with any necessary adapters/dongles

  • We start checking in students for class 15 minutes prior to the start time. However, if you are already enrolled into Student Practice, and Student Practice lands right before class begins, you may stay the duration.

  • We email every student instructions on how to enroll typically 1 - 3 days after your first day of class.

  • All BJIOS programs are non-refundable.

    If you enroll for Foundation and drop out of the course at anytime before it is completed, due to limited space in classes, there is a cancellation fee that will be enforced.

    If you wish to suspend your enrollment and return to class during another term, a cancellation fee will still apply. Students have up to one year to re-enroll. Transferring into different classes is prohibited.

  • All courses and classes are non-refundable.

    Students can be out due to Covid-19 related reasons, but will need to provide valid documentation.

    These students will be allowed to enroll into another class. However, we do allow foundation students to take time off and receive a credit towards a future class for them to rejoin at a later date, but cancellation fees will be applied. Foundation Students who rejoin classes may be required to take an assessment so they can accurately be placed in the correct levels of their classes. For those who relocate, students may be given the option to take online classes, but additional fees may apply.

  • We do not promise students will be given gigs, but our graduated alumni who have completed Foundation and Structure are provided opportunites as they arise via Ladies of Sound.

    We do offer opportunities to livestream on twitch for students who have completed Foundation & Structure programs at BJIOS.
